Trading Bot Safety Tips

Last Updated: June 1, 2025

Using automated trading bots on Steam can be convenient, but it also involves risks. SteamTradeBots.com is a directory and does not operate or endorse any listed bots. Your security is your responsibility. Here are some tips to help you trade more safely:

1. Verify the Bot

  • Check Reputation: Before trading, look at the bot's Steam profile. Check its level, comments, badges, and playtime in relevant games. Look for feedback on trading forums or communities (like SteamRep, Reddit subs, etc.), but be wary of fake reviews.
  • Check Group Affiliation: Does the bot belong to a reputable Steam group associated with trading?
  • Verify Identity: Be extremely careful of impersonator bots. Double-check the SteamID64 and profile details against the information listed here or on trusted sources.

2. Understand the Trade

  • Know the Rates: Always confirm the bot's current buy/sell rates directly in the trade window or via its chat commands if available. Rates listed on our site might be slightly outdated due to update delays.
  • Read Commands Carefully: If using chat commands, ensure you understand what each command does before sending it.
  • Double-Check Trade Offers: Carefully review **every** item on both sides of the trade offer before accepting. Ensure you are giving and receiving exactly what you expect. Pay attention to item quality, rarity, stickers, name tags, etc.

3. Secure Your Account

  • Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator:** **Enable it!** This is the single most important security feature for your Steam account and trading.
  • Strong, Unique Password:** Use a strong, unique password for your Steam account that you don't use anywhere else.
  • Beware of Phishing:** Never click suspicious links sent via Steam chat, comments, or email. Never enter your Steam login details on websites linked from untrusted sources. SteamTradeBots.com will **never** ask for your Steam password.
  • API Key Scams:** Be extremely cautious about giving API keys access to your account. Malicious sites might ask for an API key to steal your inventory during trades. Our site does *not* require *your* user API key for browsing. Bot owners generate a specific key *for their bot* to use with *our* API.

4. Trading Practices

  • Start Small:** When using a bot for the first time, conduct a small test trade to ensure it works as expected.
  • Don't Rush:** Take your time reviewing trade offers. Scammers often rely on pressuring users into accepting bad deals quickly.
  • Avoid "Trust Trades":** Never give items to a bot or user expecting something else in return outside of a single, secure Steam trade offer.
  • Market Value:** Be aware of the approximate market value of the items you are trading (cards, keys, gems, skins). Use reliable market sources for comparison.

5. What We Do (and Don't Do)

  • We provide a directory based on public or owner-submitted data.
  • We require bot owners to verify ownership via a profile code.
  • We **do not** verify the legitimacy, fairness, or security practices of the bots themselves beyond the ownership check.
  • We **are not** responsible for any losses incurred while trading with bots listed on this site.

If you encounter a bot listed here that you believe is malicious or engaging in scamming behaviour, please report it to Steam and consider contacting us so we can review the listing. Stay vigilant and trade safely!
